Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

In celebration of Christmas, let’s learn a little about this special hymnal that we have in our collection. Hymns for the Nativity of our Lord is a book written by Charles Wesley and originally published in 1745. This slim volume brings together 18 different hymns dedicated to celebrating Christmas. Wesley was very theologically drawn to the Advent season

Over the course of Wesley’s life, the collection continued to be published time and again. Even further, he continued to revise the hymns with each edition. It appeared he was always seeking the best way to sing praises for the birth of Jesus. The Styberg library actually holds 13 different editions of the hymnal, including the first edition, in our Special Collections. Stop by the library to check out these and other Christmas-y tomes.
