ACTS Libraries

The Association of Chicago Theological Schools Library Council, of which The United Library is a part, has a combined library collection of more than 2.1 million books spanning the nine locations. As a Garrett student, you are welcome & encouraged to borrow materials from any of the locations that best fit your needs.

Get your ACTS card before you go. This card is available from The United Library and verifies to the other institutions that you are a current student. ACTS cards expire every 6 months- at the end of December and at the end of June.

ATLA Reciprocal Borrowing

The United Library participates in ATLA's Reciprocal Borrowing Program which grants you access to over 60 theological libraries across North America. Use the link to locate the library closest to you, bring proof of current enrollment, and you're set.

Local Public Libraries

Don't overlook your own public library even if they don't have reciprocal borrowing with us. Usually, public libraries will grant you a borrowing card for free after showing proof of residency.

Use their ILL services to request books from us or other theological libraries from around the U.S.

Find Your Item In Any Library

If you have a particular item in mind, we'd be happy to help you navigate the best way to get your hands on it. However, if you'd like to take a stab at searching yourself, have a look in WorldCat, an online database that searches the collections of over 10,000 libraries world wide.
